KEY POINT: To enable the compass feature for recording a heading during data collection, like you would with an indicator, You MUST select “Is Heading” on the Properties section of the Layer Settings panel (See Step 3).

1. Create a new layer

From the Layers page, select “Create Layer” on the top right.

2. Layer details

Select an icon and color for the layer.

Then give the layer a name and select “Continue”

3. The Layer Builder

Now we are in the layer builder. Here is where you add the attributes for the layer and give them the names. Essentially, you are creating a form that gets filled out every time a new feature (indicator in this case) is created in this layer.

IMPORTANT: If you want to create a layer that has an azimuth component, you MUST select “Is Heading” on the Properties section of the Layer Settings panel.

You can also update the name and description of the layer in this panel as well.

4. Add Fields

First, add a “Text” field and label it “Notes”.

Then, add a “Choice” field

  • Label it “Progression Type”

  • Select the “Progression Type” option from the Choice Set dropdown

  • Finally, select “Publish” to complete the process.
